A New Look For The Rift Herald

Among the mechanical changes, that we will go over in the next section, the Rift Herald's model has been updated. Like many similar changes over the last few years, the Rift Herald has gotten a brand new model. He now looks in line with the art style of the different monsters, buildings and champions in the game.

This new look fits a lot more with the whole Void theme (Baron Nashor has also gotten quite the makeover) that is going to be present in Season 14. Here is a look at how the model looks in-game:

New Rift Herald Driving Mechanic

Now for the fun part, you will now be able to enter the Rift Herald and move it around. The Herald is going to spawn at the 14 minute mark and once you kill it, you will once again receive the Eye of the Herald, which you can use to ram him against enemy turrets. In season 14 however, you will also have the option to enter and control him instead:

Upon entering the Rift Herald, you will be able to slightly steer him to the left or the right side of where he is facing. You can do this for two different reasons:

  • Hitting an enemy turret will do more damage if the Rift Herald is piloted by a player.
  • You can manually aim the Rift Herald to hit enemy champions and briefly knock them up and damage them.

Once the Rift Herald hits any surface (A wall or a turret) the player's champion will be ejected and will receive a small cooldown, before being able to enter again.

This new mechanic will add a lot of potential for interesting plays and a lot of depth to the game. The driving mechanic is sure to incentivize players to play for the objective of killing the Herald a lot more in Season 14, not only because it will help you win the game, but because it looks fun.

That is everything we know so far about the changes to the Rift Herald in the upcoming Season 14 of League of Legends. For more information about this season, click here, or check out the rest of our website.
